Borrello

Province of Chieti, Abruzzo, Italy

This very picturesque village enjoys a wonderful view all over the Sangro Valley and the Monti Lupari. Very little is left of the ancient settlement, due to the massive destruction in WW2. Not to be missed are the waterfalls of the Rio Verde, inside a Natural WWF Oasis of the same name, nwhich are the highest natural waterfalls in the Appennines, over 200 mt (600 ft) in three separate jumps. There is another picturesque Oasis in the vicinity, the Abetina di Rosello, along the border Abruzzo-Molise, rich of white fir and other plants, among them lindens, cores and rare Lobelius maple. The reserve is also a refuge for goshawks, sparrow-hawks, hoot and cut capers.
