 The place
Poggio Picenze is a fine centre, inhabited by just a little more than 1000 people, but with at least as many people left it in the past 100 years on the emigration wave that swept through Abruzzo after 1860 and are now a remarkable community spreading all over the world.

History:
One of the castles of the Contado aquilano, in 1533 it was given by Emperor Charles V to Antonio Aldana; later it belonged to the Alfieri from L'Aquila and to De Sterlich from Chieti. In 1762 it was damaged by a terrible earthquake. In antiquity and throughout the Middle Ages it was well known for its caves of white stone.
