One of the castles of the Contado aquilano, in 1533 it was given by Emperor Charles V to Antonio Aldana; later it belonged to the Alfieri from L'Aquila and to De Sterlich from Chieti. In 1762 it was damaged by a terrible earthquake. In antiquity and throughout the Middle Ages it was well known for its caves of white stone.
