Cugnoli

The small centre rises on a hill dominating the valley of the Cigno river.

The village existence is first recorded in the XI century, and the medieval walls surrounding the original settlement can still be seen. In the XV century Cugnoli was presented by the King of Naples to the city of Chieti. Then it belonged to various families, among which Leognami-Fieramosca was the last.

  • Church of St. Stefano, with one of the most remarquable ambo in Abruzzi, probably by Master Nicodemus, who also made the one in Moscufo; edificio del XIII sec., con aggiunte quattrocentesche e seicentesche. La torre campanaria è del 1634, opera di Maestro Giovanni.
