arrowHistory:
The site was already renowned in Roman times for its absphalt mines, and later on for the local white stone which offered the material for the renownrd stonecutting crafts of the area. Detta anticamente "Terra Lecti prope Manopellum", terra dei Baroni Letto, de Letto: siamo nel XI secolo. Nel 1385 la famiglia de De Lecto ancora possedeva la baronia di Letto ed il castello di Castellari. Nel 1405 gli Orsini persero Manoppello, Turi, Letto, Casalincontrada. Nella seconda metà del XVII secolo il territorio viene assegnato ai Valignani.

  • Santuario dell'Iconicella, in a wonderfully panoramic position, just outside the centre
  • Grotta di Sant'Angelo, an old hermitage, now a favourite religious destination, with a fine stone statue of the Saint
