History
The site was already renowned in Roman times for its absphalt mines, and later on for the local white stone which offered the material for the renownrd stonecutting crafts of the area. Recorded as "Terra Lecti prope Manopellum", which means "land of the Letto Barons near Manoppello" in the 11th century in 1385 was still under the De Lecto family. In 1405 was under the Orsini and in the latter part of the 17th century under the Valignani.
Sights & Excursions
- the Iconicella Sanctuary, in a wonderfully panoramic position, just outside the centre
- the Grotta di Sant'Angelo, an old hermitage, now a favourite religious destination, with a fine stone statue of St. Michael the Archangel
- the Grotta delle Praie, with beautiful stalactites
- the baroque church of San Nicola di Bari, unfortunately seriously damaged in the 1984 earthquake
- the Sorgenti (springs) of sulphurous mineral waters coming from the Lavino and Ripa rivers

- Early October: Feast of all Saints, lasting four days, with a procession in honour of San Rocco (a much loved figure in the Abruzzese countryside) on the final day
