MARTINSICURO
Province of Teramo, Abruzzo, Italy
On the northern border of Abruzzo, a few km from important harbor San Benedetto del Tronto, Martinsicuro lies south of the mouth of the Tronto river, and is a renowned, peaceful seaside resort, as well as an industrial and manufacturing centre. It has been a municiplaity only since 1963, while before it was a "frazione" of Colonnella.

History
The territory was inhabited since Neolithic times, it was a town of the Liburni, a pre-Roman Italic population under the name of Trunetum, later called Castrum Truentum under the Romans, when it aquired strategic importance for the whole area. The present name of the small town comes from a Spaniard, captain Martin de Segura, who was ordered by Charles V to build a massive tower to defend the Tronto river.
Sights & Excursions
The massive Tower of Charles V, along the Tronto, built in the XVI century as many other sighting posts along the Adriatic as a defence against Saracen raids. In the facade there is the heraldric emblem of Emperor Charles V, with the two-headed Hapsburg eagle.
