John Paul II's surgeon from Abruzzo

Dr Gaetano Paludetti of the "Gemelli" hospital, Rome, performed the tracheotomy on the Pope. The surgeon's father, Giorgio, pescarese, as well as his grandfather were also surgeons too. Born in Rome il 21 maggio del 1952, he comes back to his family's home in Sant'Atto, prov. of Teramo, place of origin of his mother Giulia Giosia Bernardi, whenever he can.
