Dan Fante was born and raised in Los Angeles. At twenty, he quit school and hit the road, eventually ending up as a New York City resident for twelve years. Fante has worked at dozens of crummy jobs including: door to door salesman, taxi driver, window washer, telemarketer, private investigator, night hotel manager, chauffeur, mailroom clerk, deck hand, dishwasher, carnival barker, envelope stuffer, dating service counselor, furniture salesman, and parking attendant. He hopes eventually to meet a fat waitress and learn to play the harmonica.

(1) and (2) - Dan Fante in Torricella Peligna on 22 September 1999, when he saw, for the first time, the village which his grandfather Nick left in 1901

(3) and (4) - Dan Fante in Pescara, in the offices of "il Centro" on 4 August 2000;

(5) - 22 September 1999 in Torricella Peligna, Dan next to the statue of San Rocco with dog. When he was told the story of the saint and his dog he was greatly amused, since he realized at last why his father would call Rocco all his dogs !!!
