My father was Gaetano DiDomizio, born September 10, 1886 in Cugnoli, Italy. I understand he was a shepherd before he left for America at the age of 20. Poppa emigrated to Reynoldsville, PA where he met and married my mother Antoinette who was only 13 years old in the year 1909. They eventually moved to Yonkers, NY and raised a family of 12 children. I am the last born and am trying to find information on the birthplaces of both my parents.
The Abruzzo site is very informative.

Just found this web site today. I'm trying to trace my Italian heritage. My grandfather, Serfino Zorro Foracappo (probable acutal spelling was Foracappa until a clerical error at Ellis Island in 1911 or 1908 when my grandfather arrived), born on June 9, 1894 somewhere in Abruzzo region-possibly Nereto. His father was Antonio and his mother Philomena. He had three sisters (one named Dolorada) and one brother who was a "Carabinieri". Would love some help with tracing my family tree. I think there are others in the USA with the last name Foracappa. I found an Alessio Foracappa in Chicago but lost the information. Another website had a posting from a Jean Foracappa but the email address is no longer any good. If anyone can help please advise. It appears that there are two Foracappa families in Nereto at this time, if anyone can advise how to locate an address, I'd be gratefull. I would love to leave some words in Italian but I can't speak the language. It's never to late to learn but anyway...take care friends and best wishes.

Great web site! Can someone from Villa Santa Maria give me information about the cooking school there? The town is famous for its cooks - wondered if they have short-term classes for amateurs. Can't find them on the web - but in searching, I found this site. Also, my grandparents all came from Pizzoferrato - not too far from Villa. They were Casciato's and DiIulius's. I've visited a few times - have met many DiIulius's, but no Casciatos - any of you out there?

New to this site and it is great! Looking for my grandfather's relatives. CRISTOFORO FEBBO was born in Penne, 6 Dec 1882. The youngest in his family, he was orphaned around the age of 12 and had at least one sibling. He came to the USA early 1900's, and landed in PA. He married MARIETTA D'ERCOLE 31 Dec. 1906 and settled in Altoona, PA. They had 8 children, so if there are any FEBBO's out there also looking for lost relatives, we may be the "bunch" that fills the gaping hole in your genealogy scrapbook!

Hello! I am searching for information about my grandparents, Massimo Beneditto Mattei and Matilda Tiridicco. I know my grandfather was from Scoppito so I'm assuming my grandmother was from the same area.

I am a descended from the following families: Bartolucci, Del Cotto, Iagemma, Marinacci, Mattozza, Pulastri, Sidoni, Vitale.
If anyone has any information on these families or the meanings of these names in Italian or the local dialect. I would love to hear from you.
On my second trip to Italy this past January, I visited L'Aquila and Barisciano and found the region to be very beautiful. I would love to go back as soon as possible.

My family's heritage comes from Abruzzo. My father's family is from some unknown place in Abruzzo. My last name is DeFalco, but back then, it could be spelled "DiFalco".
Also, my inlaws are from the area. After researching, I have found that the people I am looking for own a butcher shop in Pescocostanzo. Their names are "Padana" Caniglia and her husband is Riccardo DiGiuseppe. I know this is a shot in the dark but does anyone have any idea?
One more thing. I am from the Pittsburgh, PA area but I am currently in the US Air Force stationed at Aviano Air Base, Italy. Aviano is near Pordenone, in the Northeast. The villiage that I live in is San Martino di Campagna. Any help would be appreciated.

HOUSE FOR RENT.
I have a nice farm house available in Pianella, province of Pescara. It is the ideal if you are going to Abruzzo with your family for a week or more.It is also great if you are going to the beach. See farmers working, drink their home- made wine and hear the roosters in the morning.
It is in the midst of olives groves and vineyards! It is by the Bus stop. It is much cheaper and peaceful than Hotels!

I'm desperate for an answer. I am involved with a wonderful man from Pescara, for 3-1/2 years now,he recently moved back to Italy and told me he could never tell his family of me because I am divorced and have a 13yr old daughter. He said his parents and his culture would not accept me....Is this possible? In the year 2001 are the mentalities in Italy (particularly in Pescara) actually this antiquated? I fell upon this site as I was helping my daughter with a research project for school. The project is about her grandmother (my mother)who was born in Villa Sant'Angelo, L'Aquila almost 70 years ago and immigrated from Italy to the U. S. when she weas 15. What a surprise to find it! I have visited Villa Sant'Angelo and surrounding area twice with my mom and I thought it was wonderful. And so small (Villa), that I never thought I would actually find a map of it for my daughter. Thank you for helping me pass on part of my heritage to my children. A heritage that I will always be very proud of.

I'm trying to verify some family names that I have on birth and marriage certificates for my family from Sant'Angelo in Grotte, Molise - Pifacci & Piccione. These names are handwritten and it's hard to tell if I have the spelling correct. Do these names look familiar to anyone?

I am also looking for any information on Mucciarone's from Sant'Angelo in Grotte, Molise. My grandfather was Rocco Mucciarone, son of Felice Mucciarone and Giacinta Lombardi.

I am sooooo new to trying to trace my grandfather's journey from Fara San Martino, Province of Chieti. Are there any D'Antonios out there? Or,is there anyone from that beautiful little village who may know my family? My grandfather Justin (b.1891 d.1979) came over here at the ripe old age of 14, he had a brother named Alberto who was in WW1. There was a sister named Juanita. There is some indication, although I am not a 100% sure, that my great-great-grandmother's name was Louise or Louisa Grossi, probably from the same town. No one in the family knows the name of granddad's boat. He left Naples in 1905 and settled in Maryland and Washington DC I do know he travled back to Fara San Martino on the Andrea Dora the year before it sank. So far I have gotten no where on the Ellis Island website, I come up blank every time. Please, anyone who has a clue...HELP! Sharon

HELLO AMERICAN-ABRUZZESI!

My name is REMO FAIETA. I am Abruzzese too, full
blood, from Pianella in the province of Pescara; I came to Columbus, Ohio, about 40 years ago and have been a Professor of French and Latin and for the past 22 years I have been conducting tours to Italy.
Those tours are special, because they take you to see not only the best of Italy (Venice, Florence, Rome...), but also that dear little town where your folks came from in the province of L'Aquila, Chieti, Teramo, Pescara, Campobasso, Puglia, Calabria, Sicily, etc.
I know Italy, especially Abruzzo, like my own backyard. I have the most detailed maps, a lot of literature and telephone books of Italy to help you locate that town which you could not find in any map... and to meet your long lost "cugini"....
I have made happy hundreds and hundreds of "cumpari and cummare" that way. Within minutes I can give you the information you have been unsuccesfully looking for all your life!
My next tour going to see the best of Italy AND ABRUZZO is this September 20, when figs and grapes are ripe. Mamma Mia, come sono buoni!
E-Mail me if you need
1)a brochure about my tours,
2)if you want to know if you have realtives in
Italy. Notice: your folks did NOT come from
the city L'Aquila, Chieti, Pescara, Teramo
(although they said so), but from little towns
in the province of those major cities...
Capisci?
Allora, Buona Fortuna e Dio Vi benedica tutti.

I am hoping to expand on the information that I have been fortunate enough to gather. My great grandparents, Bonifazio Santoro & Domenica (aka Maria) Lattanzio Santoro were both born in Popoli and came to the USA in the early 1900's. They imagrated to Massachusetts where Bonifazio and his brother Gennaro worked on the construction of the dams and reserviors for Boston. Would love to hear from any other Abruzzesse whose relatives were recruited to came to Massachusetts to do this construction.

Also, would love to hear from anyone that might have information that could help fill out my family tree. Bonifazio Santoro's parents were Antonio Santoro (b. 31.12.1844) and Domenica Corazzini (b. unknown) Antonio's parents were Gaetano Santoro (b. 1806) and Catterina DiCiccio (b. 1807). Domenica Corazzini's parents were Domenico Corazzini (b. unknown) and Maria Combatelli (b. unknown).

Domenica Santoro's parents were Antonio Lattanzio (b. 24.2.1850) and Columba Frascarella (b. 27.11.1849). I have been told that Antonio Lattanzio was the mayor of Popoli at one time. Any information that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. My wife and I are planning a trip to Popoli later this year. We've made contact w/ one cousin (a Corazzini) and would love to be able to make more before we travel there.

I'm so excited to find this sight!!! I'm trying to find information on my grandparents from Fagnano Alto. Can anyone help me? My grandfather Giuseppe Catalano came to the US in Jan of 1909 -change-this-to-at-21 yrs. old & his brother Giovanni Catalano, came here in 1905 -change-this-to-at-17yrs. old ( a sister stayed in Italy). When my grandfather came over, he stated on the ship's records that he was going to a cousin by the name of Scarsella in E. Liverpool, Ohio. Also my grandmother, Ida Seri came to the US in Aug. of 1909 with her parents (Gesmano Seri & wife Maria ? Seri, I don't know Maria's maiden name). On the ship with my Seri family was a 13 year old boy by the name of Pacifico Scarsella who was coming to join his father in Milsville, Ohio which is just outside of E. Liverpool. I believe the Scarsella family from Fagnano is related to me also, I just can't figure out exactly how. I would love to find anything on my family in Italy. Please let me know if you think we're related!!Thanks!!!!!!!!
