I'm looking for my ancestors in Italy. My grandparents named Giuseppe Di Berardino and Lucia Fulgenzio migrated to Brasil in 1901. They used to live at Basciano, Teramo, Abruzzo.
After arrival in Brasil, my grandfather's name was changed to Brandini with no known reasons. He had an oncle who was priest. At their property they had a small church (capella). The family was known as the Family Della Capella.
I would be very glad if I could find some of my old relatives.

Ciao a tutti figli e figlie Abbruzese in tutto il mondo. My dad was from Cermignano, Teramo. I've been there a few years ago. We visited the graves of his mom and dad. He showed me the home he grew up in as a child. It was abandoned then, and one of his cousins living there was taking posession of the property. Unfortunately, I was unable to visit the interior. I was told it was falling apart roof leaked all over. That year my dad passed away. I am researching family names from PENNAPIEDIMONTE, CHIETI, ABRUZZO.

Paternal grandfather - Emidio Di Giorgio - born 1874, emigrated 1891 to Philadelphia reportedly with an older sibling who I have not been able to find information about. Emidio ended up in Erie, PA around 1900. Died Erie, PA in 1962. He married Marrieta Malagranto (unsure of spelling of name - this is listed on her father's gravesite and on the deed of the house they owned) in 1904 she was 16 at the time), whose father was Augusto Malagranto, and mother was Concetta Malagranto ( Concetta is believed to have died before 1900 as my grandfather used to say his wife Marietta was such a good wife and mother because she had been taking care of her father for several years while still attending school - we have no information on Concetta's maiden name). Augusto was born about 1857 and died in Erie, PA 1916 which is information taken from census and cemetary records. We know the Malagranto family was Italian, but we have been unable to find any connections with that name anywhere in Italy. My grandmother Marrieta died in 1923 after several years of serious illness. Records indicate that my grandfather, Emidio emigrated the same year as the Malagranto's, so it is my guess he traveled with them on the same ship. He was 16 or 17, and his future wife was only around 4 at the time they emigrated. My grandfather travelled around the country for 7 or 8 years before settling in Erie, PA, where the Malagranto's and many other Italians from Pennapiedimonte were living. The majority of the Pennapiedimonte natives who moved to Erie lived in the Northwest part of town in the 4th Ward, and the Malgranato's lived there, too. It was a very tight knit community and they even had a social club called the Pennapiedimonte Club (Penn Club) which during the 20's through the 40's was one of the top night spots in Erie!

I have been unable to find the ship they may have traveled on, since it is prior to the records at Ellis Island. The Malagranto's may have been from another part of Italy, though it is doubtful because my grandfather was a died in the wool Abruzzese, and my father talked about what a good Abruzzese cook his mother was.

My grandfather had a first cousin born the same year as he (1874), in Pennapiedimonte, who was named Emidio Di Giorgio, who emigrated to the US in 1900 or 1901 and also settled in Erie, PA, so there can be some confusion in the names.

My maternal grandfather was Domenico Giuliante, born in Pennap-iedimonte Dec 18, 1883 and emigrated via Ellis Island on the Citta Di Napoli, arriving April 22, 1906. He died in Erie, PA in 1956. He married my grandmother Sabia Di Bello born 1887, also from Pennapiedimonte shortly after she arrived at Ellis Island on the Duchessa di Genova on April 25, 1910. She died in 1970.

Following the rituals of Italy, the marriage between my mother and father was arranged by my maternal grandmother and paternal grandfather. It was the last one arranged by either of the families. By the timing of events, I suspect all of my grandparents also had arranged marriages. My grandfather often reminded me as a young boy that I had pure Abruzzese blood running in my veins, and to always be proud of that heritage. No one in my immediately family was interested in documenting our family history until I started doing it a few years ago. I recently purchased a book which documents all the heads of households in Pennapiedimonte in 1753, and was thrilled to find so many households of Di Giorgio, Giuliante, and Di Bello listed even back then. There are many other names I recognize as being common names of people I knew while growing up in Erie, PA. D'Ascanio, Carideo, Di Placido, Di Marco, Di Prinzio, Di Tulio, and Ramondi, to name a few. Unfortunately, no Malagranto.

I am primarily interested in locating the names of the parents of Emidio Di Giorgio, Domenico Giuliante, Sabia Di Bello, and to try to gather any basic information about the name Malagranto, or derivitives or other spellings of that name. Any help would be appreciated.

Having a great time with this wonderful website--thanks. I'm looking for anyone connected to the Parete family of Roccamorice. My grandfather, Guiseppe Parete, came to upstate NY in 1912 but left behind his parents and many siblings.

Hello, I'm looking for anyone who might know of any Rizzo's or Ciavattella's from Citta S'Angelo,in the province of Pescara Italy.
My grandparents were Aniceto or Antonio & Anna Rizza, the name was changed to Rizzo sometime in the mid 1910's.My father was Laurentino,he also went by Louis. His 2 brothers were I believe Virgil & John or Giovanni. My grandmothers maiden name was Ciavattella,I think she had several brothers, possible names, Nicola,Angelomaria,Daniele. My grandfather came to USA in 1905, my father came in 1913 and joined his father. They were first in Pittsburg,Pa. then later in Philadelphia Pa .My grandfather returned to Italy, I'm not sure when. My father married my mother in 1919, she was American from Charlotte,NC,and they lived there their whole lives, except for a while in Miami,Fl. My fathers 2 brothers settled in Philadelphia, but somehow over the yrs.lost contact. I came along late in my parents lives,my father was 51 when I was born. My father died in 1960.I have very old pictures of my grandparents &uncles. If anyone has any information please contact me at Rizzokid4given change aol-dot-com.
I hope to make a trip to Pescara and Citta S'Angelo some day.
Thanks,

Hello out there. I am Australian born as both my parents are from Abruzzo. They migrated to Australia in the late 1950's. I spent 20 wonderful days in Italy during Feb-March of 2000. Stayed in Rome 5 days, 5 days with relatives who live near Chieti and 5 days in Florence then 5 days in Venice. What a Vacation. Next time I go to Italy I will stay longer with my relatives as they were great.
This is a great web site. Ciao tutti...........
