I was born outside the village of Santa Maria, Basciano, Teramo. I left Italy in 1958 at the age of seven. I returned in 1972 as a US soldier in the US Air Force. I enjoyed the many visits to my Grandmother's and my uncles and aunts. I want to especially thank my Aunt Ninni Di DomenicoAntonio Scaricamazzo of Santa Maria. I treasure the memories of visiting her family and her hopitality. Her cooking was the best. I want to say hello to all my relatives in the area, especially zia Teresa,Angelo e tutti altri. My mother will be visiting in December, 2002. I hope to visit as soon as my children finish the university. I will then be able to afford it. I cherish the people, hospitality and il cibo of the region. ARRIVEDERCI!!!

I love this website. I have become increasingly more interested in learning more about my heritage since my father passed away last year. My grandfather was a music teacher, Bartolomeo Trasacco, who came to New Haven, CT in the United States about 1912 or so. This site makes me feel close to home somehow. Thank you.

Absolutely adore your website sharing information about the Abruzzi area. My descendents are from Pettorano sul Gizio, and I will be there next week to continue my family history project. Marcello Bonitatibus in Pettorano is collecting information from all descendents to display. So get in contact with him and me so you know where to send it.

Thank you so very much for sharing with us your knowledge of the wonderful Abruzzo region. My father was born in Torino di Sangro and my mother in Casalbordino. For a little over three years, I have been working on a genealogy project with Abruzzo2000 for my families, thirsting for knowledge of the region. You have added an exceptional dimension for this resource and it is excellent. I look forward to your next articles.

I enjoyed your first issue!! I had the pleasure of attending the St Dominic festival in Pretoro this past May (2001) with cousins. Your commentary helped me to understand the tradition better. I had been wondering about the baby and how it was chosen, and now I know! Looking forward to more installments!

My father was from a small town called Orsonga. Orsonga celebrates the feast of Saint Rocco. Every year in mid August they have a huge procession unlike anything I have ever seen. I would love it if you would mention their festival as it holds many childhood memories for me. Your site is a great idea, keep up the good work!

Both of my parents were born in the Abruzzi region. My father,a Mariani, was from Bazzano, not far from L'Aquila. My mother, a Casciani, was from Castelnuovo. Two beautiful towns with even more beautiful people. I went to Italy with my parents and we stayed in each town, what a wonderful expeience. I am most grateful for your website it is informative, for I am always looking for information on the region. Would you have any information on Santa Guista she dates back to the early Christians and is the patron of Bazzano. The church dates back to her maryterdom. Thank you for all the work you are doing to preserve the history of the region of my roots

My grandparents were born and raised in Popoli and I appreciate the opportunity to learn more about the Abruzzo Regione. Your website is very good and i intend to visit it often in the future. My wife and I drove from Popoli through Cocculo to Scanno in May 2000. It is one of the most beautiful drives I have ever taken. I did not get any pictures because of the narrow roads. Are there any picturs of these scenes available on the internet?

this is so wonderful to see; my father was a shepherd boy who lived in Roccomontepiano and told me of nights spent listening to fabulous tales by firelight in the barn as adults worked, or of the day that, as a child of 5 or 6, he finally lost patience with a very bad sheep, threw a stone at it, and it hit the best sheep of all right in the eye. he always had tears in his eyes when he told this tale, even into late middle age, when he grew ill. but the sheep was okay, wasn't it? i'd always ask, and he'd say, yes, yes, but i still feel bad about it. my father was an incredibly spiritual and wonderful man who missed the beauty of Abruzzo very much, and who told me the motto of his area was "strong but gentle." certainly an accurate description of my wonderful father. again, thank you so much for bringing his world of lost beauty to life for me.

Looks great, good information, always looking for any information about my family roots in Italy. My father watched sheep on many nights as a child and told me a story about a young boy crying wolf to many times. Many thanks for your hard work. Have a good Holiday Season to all and to all a good day.
