Diary from L'Aquila

coffee

After hours of work, placing tables and other basic necessities, on the large meadow with view of L'Aquila, it seems the right time for a cup (plastic glass actually) of coffee. I had an old electric coffeepot, which was put away since the spy light was no more working - who cares now?

Every little step for a return to civilized life is a step towards reconstruction. The coffeepot is ready, the young men of the Protezione Civile are still setting up the tent, which did not come with a diagram so they are trying to figure where each piece goes. The first coffee is for them, I feel so happy that I can do just this little thing for them. And they also say thank you. I know they have been working all these days until they fall of exhaustion, I know that the firefighters - who are the only ones receiving a salary - receive a laughable sum if compared to what our members of parliament get, for whom the only risk is tripping into a soft carpet while going to their comfortable armchair.
