In 1434 an Aquilan statute decreed exile and tongue cutting for speaking against public institutions. But the cunning inhabitants decided gossip against individuals was not forbidden, they chose a patron (st. Agnes) and a day (January 21). Also an ideological explanation was found for gossip, as a cathartic moment for one's own rage. There are 30 clubs in L'Aquila for the various trades, each one electing its President on this day.

On the national TV a program on the dialect of Chieti, with interpreters working on common dialogues in the fruit and vegetable markets. The program was about the authenticity of feelings in dialect, a "tongue of the heart".

Roberto Pallotta had denounced the elderly parish priest for ringing the bells at 7 in the morning. Now a compromise was reached: the bells start at 8, and the citizens living around the church can go on sleeping undisturbed.
