An association of teraman chefs against the "sagre" / É stata costituita un'associazione a tutela della cucina del Teramano, by Alex de Palo
Against imitations and false culinary specialties, for a true "doc" culinary tradition, Aldo Persiani from the "Baffo rosso", Andrea Beccaceci from Giulianova,
Giancarlo Luzi from the "Gallery" Alba Adriatica, Marcello Rossi from the "Duomo", Teramo and Mirna Protassi from the "Tre Archi", Val Vomano, maintain that Teraman cuisine is being ruined by poor products ans the "sagre" business. To fight against the trend, the association will be present in all gastronomic local festivals with its own stand.

Collettara (Scoppito) - The ancient "polentata" in the village square / La tradizionale "polentata" nella piazza
At 12.30 today in the central square of the small hamlet a very ancient tradition of over 300 years ago will be re-enacted. All the Capulli families, since that remote time, to thank San Fabiano for saving them, will offer a dish of polenta to all villagers and visitors. They will start work early in the morning cooking the maize flour in giant copper pots and preparing a tomato sauce enriched with pork meat.

Beppe Frattaroli will present his new album, «...il viaggio...» next 4 february in Rome. He is being appreciated all over Italy, and also made the music for Dacia Maraini's poems on CD.

The feast will open at 9 with the Holy Mass and distribution of blessed greenbeans. Then fireworks and band music, at 11 the procession for the saint, at 14 in piazza Duomo the age-old traditional "sbannimento", a public auction of foodstuffs and other products, then in the evening costume representation in music for Sant'Antonio and finally at night the "ballo della pupa".

Manoppello - A monument to remember young Luigi Cernac / Un monumento per ricordare Luigi Cernac, by Walter Teti
On 30 september 1943 a young 19-year-old political refugee from Slovenia, fair-haired and with blue eyes, who had found a job with a local blacksmith and was loved by everybody for his great heart, was helping local partisans in collecting weapons to fight the Germans. They were discovered by Fascist troops, arrested on the bridge leading to the Volto Santo, then Luigi was submitted to a mock trial andcruelly executed on the spot. The stains left from his blood remained on the small bridge walls for years. Until 1997 an old anonymous iron cross marked his tomb. Now master stone-carver Angelo D'Astolfo has made for the young martyr a fine monument, now always covered with fresh flowers.

Manoppello - A German troupe for a documentary on the Volto Santo / Il Volto Santo richiama la tv tedesca
There is a great interest in Germany for the sacred veil, which perfectly matches the forms of the face from the sacred shroud in Turin. An interest which rises from science and religion, allied together in the attempt to find explanations and answers. The small Abruzzese town expects one million visitors this year.
