MESSAGGERO - A young martyr from Abruzzo / Una vita dedicata allo Spirito, poi il martirio in Cina , by Federica Farda

The province of L'Aquila will have its first new saint after St John of Capestrano, canonized in 1690. Cesidio Giacomantonio from Fossa will be made a saint on 1 October in Saint Peter, in Rome, along with other martyrs from China. The young Franciscan father was born on 30 august 1873 and in 1897 became a Franciscan friar and chose China as his destination. He was burned alive while defending the Holy Host on 4 July 1900 by Chinese "boxers". Bruno Giacomantonio, a descendant of a brother to Cesidio, cried of joy at the news. Most relatives are now in Australia.

MESSAGGERO - Civitella del Tronto - historical re-enactment of the fortress siege / Rievocazione in costumi d'epoca dell'assedio della fortezza

For two days in Civitella for the 30th "Incontro tradizionalista" the events of the siege will be re-enacted. All the program in the article. Civitella was the last fortress of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies to resist the armies of the Savoy.

IL CENTRO - - Ovid exhibition / Mostra su Ovidio, by Danea Campanella

Great success to the exhibition organized on Latin poet Publius Ovidius Naso's «Ars Amatoria», on the occasion of the second millennium of his birth. On show dozens of precious editions of his work. Many students are expected, and visits will be organized to historical and archeological sites.

Heraldry fever in town - Anybody it seems wants to trace back family roots to some noble House : a printout of the surname's coat of arms costs 15-30,000 lire. The photo studio is affiliated to «Creative Line», a company from San Severo (Foggia) with a connection to the heraldry archive of Italian libraries. The research obviously does not guarantee any blood relationship to the surname's coat of arms.

The Calanque reserve, the newest born among WWF oases in Abruzzo, will host the national WWF meeting this year. Starting place Brecciara, then an itinerary through the calanques, culminating in the liberation in the area of a number of rapacious birds.
