MESSAGGERO - L'Aquila - Sister Gertrude / Suor Gertrude, il giro del mondo con una preghiera, by Federica Farda
Sixty-six years without leaving her monastery of the Beata Antonia in silence and prayer. Gertrude accepted to give an interview to tell about her memories. On 25 january 1934, she entered religious life, one year later she took her orders. She remembers six bishops, the war destruction when the nuns hid two Jewish ladies, and offered food to anybody, Italian, American or German. Until the vatican Council they could leave the monastery only for health reasons, later on also to vote. Does she miss the world? No, with her prayers she has been anywhere. And she reads and watches TV, and nuns write letters and speak on the phone to people in need.
