Torricella Peligna - Dan Fante returns to his roots / "Ho ritrovato le mie radici"

Writer Dan Fante, 55, visited for the second time the town of his grandfather. Dan is the son of John Fante, an Italian American writer called by Charles Bukowski "il narratore più maledetto d’America". John Fante passed by Torricella only once in 1957, while Dan was able these days to visit the ancestral home, touching the very stones placed there by his grandfather. He says he found in Torricella the same stubborness and spontaneity described by his father. In the article a poem written for the occasion.

In Civitella Giuseppina Persia will be 107 in January; in Civita Angela Bisegna, born 1897, will have these days her 103rd birthday surrounded by her 10 children and many grand- and great-grand-children. In Civita there will be another 100th birthday in January. Something in the air?
