Fara Filiorum Petri - Getting ready for St. Anthony / Gara tra contrade per le farchie
The farchie are bundles of hay, 3 ft in diameter, up to 30 ft high, a special Abruzzese tradition for St. Anthony. Legend says the first were prepared in 1860 by Menic'Antonio della Selva, a farmer from Colli, to shed light on the route of the procession for the saint. Every year afterwards a competition started for the biggest farchie among the contrade (Campolungo, San Donato, Colli, Fara Centro, Giardino, Mandrone, Pagnotto, Piane, via Madonna del Ponte, Via San Nicola, Via Sant'Eufemia, Vicenne). Pagan rites and religious events mix together in this very special festival.
