Riding her bike she went to assist her patients. When the Germans occupied Avezzano and American fighters bombed the town, Vincenza Valbonesi, of late Ciro and late Cecilia Portolani, born in San Piero in Bagno (Firenze) on 22 may 1892, stayed with her patient Elisa Di Clemente, wife to Alessandro Granucci, during childbirth while all the inhabitants escaped. For her courage she was awarded a silver medal. When the child was born, she took him an the mother to a cave, where the child was baptized.

San Salvo - Roman ruins found / Trovati reperti di epoca romana
While excavating to restore the "Vecchia fontana", Roman ruins were found. This is important for the history of the place, which was believed to have risen in the Middle Ages.
