Abruzzo News: 20 May 2001

Today the Festa dei banderesi begins in honor of patron S.Urbano I, continuing on 24 and 25 May with historical re-enactements, conclusion on 26 May with the celebration for St. Candida. The origins go back to the conflict with Chieti in the 13th century. The Sergentiere, of the family Tatasciore-papè, had a dream where St. Urbano suggested him to make the soldiers wear bands, then proceed in and out of the walls so that from afar the enemy thought that a great number of soldiers was there. In this way Bucchianico won the war.
