8 august 1956 in Marcinelle, Belgium, 8.10 hours, at 975 meters below the ground an explosion and a fire. Silvio Di Luzio was in the rescue team. He is in Pescara now for the Marcinelle - Manoppello sister-city program. In the article he tells his experience, the research that went on for over a month. 262 victims, of them 136 italians and 67 Abruzzese, mostly from Manoppello. The rescuers were forbidden to speak with journalists. The association of former miners in Marcinelle still today, every 8 August, commemorates the tragic event.
