IL MESSAGGERO Pescara - The bishop that died in the river / Il vescovo martire che morì nell’Aterno San Cetteo was bishop of Pescara between 568 and 597 AD, until June 13 when he was beheaded and thrown into the Aterno river. The bishop was a victim of the barbarian ferocity of Lombards that, being of Arian religion, were against all Catholics and their hierarchy. His body was found at the mouth of the river and since that day he become patron of Pescara. San Cetteo è stato presule di Pescara dal 568 al 597 d.C., sino a quando, il 13 giugno, fu decapitato e gettato nel fiume Aterno. Il presule cadde vittima della ferocia barbarica dei Longobardi che, essendo ariani, osteggiavano tutti i cattolici ma in particolare la sua gerarchia. Il suo corpo fu recuperato alla foce del fiume e da quel giorno divenne patrono di Pescara.
