MESSAGGERO - Traditions: the last paranza ended up in the fake sea of a museum / NEL SEGNO DELLA TRADIZIONE - E l’ultima paranza fině nel mare finto di un museo by Michela Braccia
The last Abruzzese "paranzella", until 15 years ago still on the beach, is now in the boat museum at Cesenatico. The paranza was so called because the boats sailed "pari", that is in a line together. This section of Abruzzese history has long been waiting for its historian. A first attempt has been made by prof. Francesco Feola, who in his book «Le paranze», records the voices of the last living «paroni». They tell of a world of religious and superstitious traditions and weather forecast know-how: the much feared "scijone", a typhoon which could be either male or female, and the rite to stop it; the "punti di stella" in November, unfortunate days for fishing; all in all, a "slave's life".

MESSAGGERO - Book on sapphron history /Libro sulla storia dello zafferano by Mauro Cianfaglione
PRATOLA - We do not know when the sapphron trade began in Abruzzo, but it was greatly developed in the early XIV century: Giuseppe Mussoni's book, with preface by Antonio Cialina, marks an important new advance for publisher Adelmo Polla and Abruzzo, since not many regions have such a rich collection (108 volumes now) on local history and culture. Sapphron, widely used since ancient times in the kitchen and in medicine, is now sold at 6 million Lire per kg.
