Avezzano mayor Mario Spallone, 82 anni, former physician for Palmiro Togliatti and among the foremost leaders of the Abruzzese left, is really an old lion: he has changed the town, building roads and school, a sports palace and swimming pool, restored a castle, and started many new buildings that will launch Avezzano in the next century as a modern, technological town with a high quality of life. He shares the vision of the new left, those who want things to be done, and done now. He will support the regional campaign for the reelection of Antonio Falconio through his local TV station

Many fear that information systems in transport, energy and health systems will collapse on the millennium date change. Today and tomorrow all over Abruzzo the sansalvese group will simulate a communications black-out during an earthquake, and a rescue column of 10 vehicles will proceed to Lentella, Fresagrandinaria, Palmoli and San Buono, then to Gissi, Furci, Cupello, Monteodorisio, Scerni, Pollutri, Casalbordino and finally Vasto, explaining people what to do.
