The typical Abruzzese jewel presented by a man to his fiancee or wife. Historical research (available in the Museo delle Genti d'Abruzzo, Pescara) has shown the jewel as commonly known in the early 19th century, which means it surely dates back to the previous century, and maybe earlier still, probably originating in Guardiagrele or Agnone (now Molise), and the places where it was produced were Pescocostanzo, Scanno, Sulmona, each place with a different variation, and often each goldsmith with his own model. Originally it was made with poor titre gold (being redder in appearance) and the filigree - which is what makes it precious nowadays, that the goldsmith's art is more precious than gold itself - was preferred to solid gold because it was lighter and therefore used less of the precious metal.
Available in silver, molded gold or filigree gold (in filigree it is completely handmade) and only in the shapes and sizes described. All pendants below are ready to ship.
